#SheDirects is a new development initiative by Create NSW for female TV drama directors. 

First announced in November 2015, Create NSW’s ‘50:50 by 2020’ gender parity target recently achieved parity for female producer and writer roles across the sector, but the new investment is aimed at boosting efforts to increase the number of females in director positions.

Create NSW is seeking to fund the development of female directed, one-hour TV Drama Series proposals with at least one other female key creative (writer, producer, director) attached. These projects could have a male co-writer or producer but the point is to encourage and bring to the fore key female voices and directorial talent.

Create NSW will contribute $100,000 for the development of up to 4 x one-hour TV Drama projects from Screen development funds.

Create NSW is looking for applications for one-hour TV Drama Series proposals with only female directors, at least one other female key creative (writer, producer, director) attached. These projects could have a male co-writer or producer but the point is to encourage and bring to the fore key female voices and directorial talent.

Create NSW will contribute $100,000 for the development of up to 4 x one-hour TV Drama projects from Screen development funds.

What project formats are eligible? 

Create NSW is initially seeking to fund female directed one-hour TV Drama Series for development, not limited to miniseries, single season or recurring series and may be at all stages of development.

Create NSW will select up to four NSW-based projects with female directors and at least one other female key creative (writer, producer, director), deliverable by early 2019. 

Once selected, teams will receive funding for development.

An individual can submit or be attached to multiple applications; however we’d advise you to put your most competitive projects forward.

 

Who is eligible?

Applications must have a female director, and at least one other female key creative (writer, producer, director).

Applicants will generally be NSW based key creatives, individuals or companies or have at least one NSW based key creative (writer, producer or director) attached. 

The Applicant must have a valid ABN and, if required by law, be registered for GST.

The Applicant must hold the rights to the project.

Create NSW general eligibility requirements can be found in the Create NSW Terms ofTrade, which should be read in conjunction with these guidelines.

Create NSW is committed to supporting increased participation in the industry of people from underrepresented groups including women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from CaLD backgrounds, people with disability, LGBTQI people, people from western Sydney and people from regional NSW. Priority will be given to teams including people from under-represented groups.

 

What do I need to submit?

Applicants must complete the online applicationformand submit, at a minimum, a 1-2 page pitch document (with the option of including additional story materials relevant to your stage of development e.g. episode scripts or proof of concept films).

What is the assessment process?

Create NSW will review and assess the applications against the following criteria:

The strength and distinctiveness of the concept;

The strength of the story and the quality of the submitted materials; 

The potential of the project to reach its target audience;

The track record of the Key Creative(s) and/or associated companies;

The potential of the project to contribute to a robust screen industry in NSW;

The potential of the project to be realised from Initial Development through to production, and then final distribution and exhibition.
