Being sixteen isn't easy. But being sixteen as an Australian Muslim with an Arabic name and the hijab on your head is something else, particularly if you’re a girl from the suburbs on a scholarship to a posh school in the city. This is Amal Abdel-Hakim's story. She’s crushing on a guy she knows she can never have, she has a crazy study load, and she just wants to be accepted for who she is. So when she decides to wear the hijab full-time - against her parents' wishes – she isn't sure how things will turn out. Under pressure at school, and against a rising tide of Islamophobia in society at large, Amal struggles to find her place in the world without losing faith in her identity.
