Amplifier is a new bespoke script development program for feature films. The program brings together world-class advisors with New South Wales creative teams for individually tailored script development.
Amplifier is designed to provide direct pathways to the end market, including engagement with distributors and exhibitors. Screen NSW will work with the teams for the entire life of the selected projects. As part of the program, advisors will also have an on-going relationship with the filmmaking teams over an extended development period to further enhance their creative relationship.
Amplifier, which is also being supported by Screen Australia, replaces the long-standing Screen NSW Aurora program.
The first program Amplifier: Adaptation was announced in 2016 and scripts will be developed into 2018.

Amplifier: Adaptation is open only to feature films adapted from a previous work, for example: a book, musical play or memoir at any stage in development.
Up to four projects will be developed, and we will accept projects at various stages of development, from early through to advanced. Support will be tailored to each selected project.
Screen NSW general eligibility requirements can be found in the Screen NSW Terms of Trade, which should be read in conjunction with these guidelines.
- Applicants will generally be a NSW-based Key Creative, individual or company. If you are not based in NSW you must provide evidence of a genuine co-production partnership with a NSW-based company or producer OR have at least one NSW based Key Creative (writer, producer or director) attached.
- Teams need to include a Key Creative with credits in scripted content.
- You must intend to produce or post produce your project in NSW.
- You must hold the rights in your project. Amplifier: Adaptation applicants must hold an existing option on the work they intend to adapt for a minimum of two years, with a first right to renew at the end of the Option period.
- Scripts should be capable of being delivered to Screen NSW by the end of 2017.
Screen NSW is committed to supporting increased participation in the industry of people from under-represented groups including women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from CaLD backgrounds, people with disability, LGBTQI people, people from western Sydney and people from regional NSW. Priority will be given to teams including people from under-represented groups.
- A completed application form.
- All core materials listed on the application form including a script or substantial treatment
- Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:
- The strength and distinctiveness of the concept
- The strength of the story and the quality of the submitted materials
- The plans for use of the funding
- The potential of the project to reach its target audience and its viability in terms of likely budget relative to market
- The track record of the Key Creative(s)
- The potential of the project to contribute to a robust screen industry in NSW
Screen NSW will advise applicants of the outcome of their application by early November 2016.
If we commission an indigenous assessment, the project will be assessed with reference to Screen Australia’s guidelines Pathways & Protocols: a filmmaker’s guide to working with Indigenous people, culture and concepts.
