The Createability Internship Program is a partnership between Create NSW and Accessible Arts and a range of NSW-based arts, screen and cultural organisations, to develop strong career pathways for people with disability.
Internships, attachments and industry placements for emerging practitioners are well-established pathways to employment in the arts, screen and cultural sectors. This program a critical step to delivering longer term job placements in the sector as the NSW Government and industry work together.
The Createability Internship Program provides customised training for up to 10 participants with disability or who are d/Deaf, followed by paid internships in major NSW organisations across the arts, screen and cultural sectors.
The internships cover a variety of creative and technical areas in the screen and cultural sectors, including marketing, curating, production, front of house, arts administration, public programs, art department, camera and sound, writing, producing, animation and visual effects, and editing.
Who can apply?
To be eligible to apply, you need to meet the following criteria:
- be an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident
- identify as a person with disability or who is d/Deaf (see Guidelines for definition)
- be over 18 years of age
- be a current resident of NSW and;
- have previous industry experience of any level, including being new to the workforce, or have been actively engaged in or seeking a career opportunity in the arts, screen and culture industry.
When can I apply?
- Applications open Monday 20 September 2021
Applications close Monday 18 October 2021 at 5pm (AEDT).
We encourage applicants to complete and submit the relevant application form through our secure online grants system, SmartyGrants (the application form will be available from 20 September 2021).
However, applicants to this program are welcome to submit their proposals in any format accessible to them. Please read the Guidelines for further details on application requirements.

Create NSW is hosting the following webinars to discuss the internship program, application process and how to put your best application forward:
Tuesday 14 September 2021, 11am – Createability Information Session (Part One)
Create NSW staff will be joined by Accessible Arts and representatives from previous Createbility host organisations who will discuss the internship program and the positive outcomes it has achieved for both the interns and organisations. This session will be live captioned and have an Auslan Interpreter. Speakers include: Morwenna Collett (Create NSW), Liz Martin (Accessible Arts), Chris Tooher (Sydney Festival), Janelle Ryan (Sydney Opera House) and Libbie Doherty (ABC). Register now.
Thursday 30 September 2021, 11am – Createability Information Session (Part Two)
Create NSW staff will be joined by previous successful Createability interns who will discuss the application process and how to put your best application forward. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions. This session will be live captioned and have an Auslan Interpreter. Speakers include: Morwenna Collett (Create NSW) and 2018 Createability Interns, Joel Pragnel and Jack Dowdell. Register now.
