Meet our new Emerging Producer Placement Michael Gupta

Michael Gupta is a recent recipient of the Emerging Producer Placement - a Create NSW mentoring scheme for emerging Australian producers.

Michael, who started his placement at Create NSW today, is an Australian filmmaker. Along with his extensive acting work in film and theatre, Michael has been identified as one-to-watch as an emerging screenwriter and director.

In 2015 Michael graduated from AFTRS Screenwriting and was selected to participate in Screen NSW/ Metro Screen's First Breaks Film Lab. Through this program, Michael wrote and directed the short film The Lake that has received official selections around the globe and premiered at Oscar and BAFTA qualifying Encounters Short Film Festival in the UK, returning home for its Australian Premiere at the St Kilda Film Festival 2017.

As a diverse Australian of mixed ethnicity, Michael is interested in the outsider looking in. Themes of identity, race, the complexity of youth and coming-of-age feature heavily in his work. Upcoming projects include the short film There She Is, for which Michael has been selected to develop as a participant in the National Talent Development Camp for diversity with Screen Australia and Create NSW. Michael is also currently developing the 6-part narrative comedy/drama If Pain Persists.
