Screen NSW recommends what to watch these holidays

It has been a jam-packed year with a bumper lineup of Australian content from big screen entertainment including George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and best in show family film Runt to local series including fan favorites Colin From Accounts Season 2 and Boy Swallows Universe  

Whether you’re enjoying some holiday downtime or looking for a new release to watch, see what Screen NSW recommends you watch this festive season.  

Bump Season 5

Releasing Thursday 26 December 2024 on Stan. 

Synopsis: In season five, a peek into the future hints where our favorite characters will go. Jumping through past and present, the Chalmers-Davis family are tackling the never-ending hurdles life seems to throw their way as they face Angie’s (Claudia Karvan) diagnosis, while also trying to celebrate the joy of Oly’s (Nathalie Morris) second pregnancy. 

Supported by Screen NSW, Bump is produced by acclaimed Australian production company Roadshow Rough Diamond and its founders Dan Edwards and John Edwards with Claudia Karvan and Kelsey Munro.

Black Snow Season 2 

Releasing Wednesday 1 January 2025 on Stan. 

Synopsis:What happened to Zoe Jacobs? In this returning season, cold case Detective Cormack (Travis Fimmel) tackles two separate missing persons cases. One is professional, as he investigates the disappearance of Zoe Jacobs (Jana McKinnon), who hasn’t been seen since her own 21st birthday party in 2003. And the other is personal, as Cormack searches desperately for his own younger brother, who went missing when they were children.

One Mind One Heart

Releasing Sunday 19 January 2025 on NITV, SBS and SBS On Demand. 

Synopsis: In this documentary, an historic political Yirrkala bark petition is discovered and makes its way home to Yolŋu country, evoking the spirit of decades of activism for change. The repatriation provides the opportunity to track the long political campaign – through petition, song, dance, campaigning – to keep culture strong and to have a voice for Country.

Nugget Is Dead: A Christmas Story

Now streaming on Stan. 

Synopsis: When her beloved family dog, Nugget, falls sick over Christmas, Steph Stool (Vic Zerbst) must abandon her very elegant holiday plans with her boyfriend’s family, and return instead to her small coastal hometown to confront the chaos of her own… less elegant family. In the week leading up to Christmas, each member of the Stool family must grapple with the mortality of the one thing that unifies them.

The Fall Guy

Synopsis: He’s a stuntman, and like everyone in the stunt community, he gets blown up, shot, crashed, thrown through windows and dropped from the highest of heights, all for our entertainment. And now, fresh off an almost career-ending accident, this working-class hero has to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his day job. What could possibly go right? Inspired by the hit 1980s TV series.

Paper Dolls Season 1

Now available to stream on Netflix. 

Synopsis: Paper Dolls follows five aspiring singers who are thrust into the spotlight in pursuit of pop-stardom and fame. Never far from the watchful eye of the cameras, fans and critics, HARLOW is born out of music reality television show Pop Rush, redefining pop culture in the process. However, the five young women must navigate the dark side of a glamourous industry determined to commodify them.
