Standing ovation for 'Sanctuary' at Sydney Film Festival

Directed by NSW filmmaker Kaye Harrison, the Bunya Productions feature documentary, Sanctuary is a personal account of the horrific refugee humanitarian struggle. It takes us inside the heart and mind of one young man, Khaled, displaced from his home in Iraq and Holland.

Khaled’s journey guides us through the fall of Saddam Hussein, the Iraq War where he served as an interpreter to the US army, Australia’s detention policies and boat arrivals, and the mass migration of refugees throughout Europe. It is a deeply heartfelt and emotionally rich documentary that is both epic and intimate.
Create NSW has financially supported Sanctuary which enjoyed a world premiere – and a standing ovation at the 66th Sydney Film Festival last week. It was also given a special jury mention at the awarding of the Documentary Australia Foundation award for the best documentary at the closing night of the Sydney Film Festival on Sunday 17 June 2019.
